Updated Covers for The White Tower and Shackled

25 August 2017
With the upcoming audiobooks being published for The White Tower and Shackled, I knew it was time to get my final covers aligned. Up until now, I’ve been using a stock photo for the cover of Shackled, but now, I have built a completely new design that correlates with the rest of the books in the series.
The hand-drawn illustration work for the shackles was created by my sister, Janelle Wisehart. She did a phenomenal job…as always.
I will now have to find the time to rebuild hardcopy covers to match.
Let me know what you think!
I absolutely loved ‘The White Tower’ and looking forward to the next book in the series. Just thought I would pass that along. Regardless of the errors, didn’t take away from the book at all.
Thanks Barb,
Glad to hear you enjoyed the story. When did you grab the book? Was it the first or second edition? The reason I ask is because you mention errors. I was just curious which rendition you had read and what kind of errors you were seeing.
I spent the better part of last year re-writing the book with a team of editors, and they didn’t get the final edited copy uploaded until around the second or third week of November. Anything before then, would have had more typos.
I’m busy working on the second draft of the second book now. Have you had a chance to read the Street Rats of Aramoor series yet?
All the best,
Yo! Where you at? You’ve been MIA for like a year+ on all social media and updates are hard to find… like the only reason I know you’re alive is that comment from August! Is book 2 coming out soon? Would like an update.
Thanks!
Hi Jim,
I don’t do much in the way of blog posts. I do most of my updates via my facebook page and newsletters to my readers. I do make sure to answer any comments left on the site, though.
You mentioned I haven’t been seen on social media, have you joined my facebook page yet? If not, here it is: https://www.facebook.com/MichaelWisehart.author/
I have spent the majority of this year working with a team of editors on The White Towers. We just launched the much-needed 2nd edition of the first book. When I published The White Tower back at the end of 2016, I didn’t have the budget to do the kind of editing it needed.
I am hard at work on the second draft of book 2: Plague of Shadows.
When will the follow up to The White Tower come out? Loved the first, and about to start Shackled.
Hi Danny,
I’m working on the second draft of the second book now, called Plague of Shadows. I’ve had to put the book on hold for most of this year as I’ve been working with a team of editors on my previously published books, including The White Tower. If you’ve read it recently, you will have noticed a number of typos. I apologize for that.
Because of the length of time it has taken my editors to work through this book, I made the decision a couple of months ago to start uploading the newly re-written chapters even though they hadn’t been through the cleaning process yet. I thought the story was more important that the typos.
The first of my two copy editors are working through the cleaning process, now that the re-writes are complete.
I will talk to Amazon about offering a free update to the digital version once the book is finished and the 2nd edition is launched.
Thanks for the quick answer Michael. I did notice the typos, but they did not distract from the story. I really enjoyed the book, and was sad when it ended. But, I do look forward to reading more. Well done!
Where you at? You’ve been AWOL for the past year and the only evidence that you’re alive is this comment from August on your obscure blog! Is book 2 coming out soon?
Thanks!
Hello – I’m curious about the age appropriateness for this series? I have a 14 and 12 year old who love books like Dawn of Wonder, Narnia, Lord of the Rings, etc…
However some of the Epic Fantasy novels by Brandon Sanderson are a little too heavy for them at this point.
Hello Merik. I’m glad to see you taking an interest in what your kids read. That’s a tough question, since it can be subjective based on each individual person. Right now I have two series that I’m writing: “The Aldoran Chronicles” and “Street Rats of Aramoor.” Both are built within the same world, however, the Aldoran Chronicles series with The White Tower as its first book is heavier than the Street Rats.
The Street Rats series has a single main character who is 13 years old, while the Aldoran Chronicles has multiple main characters off all ages. I’ve had a number of my readers tell me they appreciated the fact that I write books they can let their kids read, since most of the fantasy coming out nowadays tends to be filled with graphic sex and language. However, I will say that the first book in the Aldoran Chronicles does have some torture scenes in it. I tried dampening them by giving the main character being tortured a sarcastic whit. He has become one of the most universally loved characters so far.
My suggestion would be, if you are not going to read them yourself, to let your 14 year old read The White Tower while you start your 12 year old on the Street Rats books (“Banished” & “Hurricane”). That way the older can let you know whether it is appropriate for their younger sibling. What some people find as appropriate, might not be the same for others.
I’m glad to see you taking interest either way.
On a side note, I’m in the process of adding 100 more pages onto the first book (Banished)in the Street Rats series. I hope to have it completed, edited, and republished by the end of next month. However, you can still read it as is without detriment. All of my books, except the prequel to The White Tower are up on Amazon.
I hope this helps.
Thank you…this is all very helpful. I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
We look forward to diving in!
Merik
My pleasure. I hope you enjoy.
I enjoyed Shackled and it only had a few errors. Well made characters and plot. I look forward to reading The White Tower. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed. If you spot some errors feel free to let me know and I’ll correct. The audiobook for Shackled, narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds, will be up for free on the 14th at http://www.audfans.com The White Tower will soon follow on the 19th on audible.
